Pip is missed, and Lilian does some digging.

Radio Times: Lilian turns detective and Elizabeth is put on the spot

Characters: David, Elizabeth, James, Lilian, Pip, Toby

• Pip is up early to do the milking, and Toby has got her some blueberry muffins, her favourite. She still insists they should stay low-key and stress-free. Toby stays in bed for a few more hours sleep. Just as Toby is leaving Lower Loxley, Elizabeth asks him not to prop his bike up against her ornamental bay tree. They discuss him having a key.
• At Brookfield, David and Pip are checking the herd. He is happy to be back home from his holiday, and he is pleased that Pip wants to stay and expand the herd. He also congratulates her on ending the relationship with Toby. She seems to have got her spark back.
• James is paying his mother a flying visit. She wants to talk about what Matt is up to. Why is Matt hiding at Grey Gables? She explains how Anisha was checking horses for Matt and that he was making videos of top-class horses, but then buying cheaper nags. Lilian shows James the website for Melling Investments, and he suggests calling them and pretending to be a potential investor.
• David bumps into Elizabeth outside the village shop. He asks when he can have his daughter back. As long as Pip isn’t staying away from Brookfield to avoid her parents finding out about some new boyfriend …
• Lilian has spoken to Alex, of Melling Investments. Phase 2 of the investments in the Costa Rican racecourse is closed for the time being, but there were opportunities to invest in eco lodges in the Amazonian rain forests (very low risk, very high return apparently). Alex asked if Lilian was one of the horse sellers and if she’d spoken to Matt recently as nobody had been able to get hold of him in the last few days. Lilian is very confused. Has Matt got some private scam going? What is going on? James is back in London, checking out the offices of Melling Equestrian in Regent Street. It is nothing more than a PO Box in a scruffy building, nothing like the pictures on the brochure or website. Whatever Matt has got himself into, it stinks to high heaven.
• Elizabeth is having a chat with Pip while she is cooking pasta. She mentions that David was wondering when Pip would be going back to Rickyard, and warns her that she won’t lie about Toby being around if she is asked directly.
