Roy can’t keep quiet and Carina visits Ian and Adam.

Radio Times: Ian struggles to make a good impression and Shula is glad of a friend

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Roy is still distracted, thinking about the CCTV recording, while Lynda thinks aloud about Robert’s campaign for the local council. Roy asks her, hypothetically, about seeing things happening in the Grey Gables car park. Lynda wrongly assumes he is talking about cars being damaged. With a sniff, she advises Roy to consider his responsibility as holder of a managerial position.
  • Ian is preparing a big lunch for Carina’s visit; Adam’s shirt is the sort Brian would wear so he decides to change. Before he does, the doorbell rings. It is Roy. He tells them about the CCTV coverage showing Adam punching Matt. Ian is surprised and angry, as Adam hadn’t told him. Roy wants to tell the police, Adam begs him not to. Carina walks in just at the wrong moment.
  • Shula is at Grey Gables to see Oliver. Lynda asks her if she’s like to direct the Christmas production but she declines. Philip Moss is there too, doing a quote for some work and the two of them have lunch together. Shula tells Philip a bit about her and Alistair. She says that she loathes Matt but that she loves Alistair.
  • Carina’s visit seems awkward. She talks about her daughter getting into scraps and then claiming someone else started it. She says she has a pretty good sense of what sort of parents Ian and Adam would make. Adam makes his excuses and leaves in a hurry
  • Adam is home and apologising to Ian for flouncing from lunch. Ian demands to know why he punched Matt and why he didn’t tell him. Adam tries to explain, how Matt said that they two of them being parents was unnatural. He’s been to the police to explain the punch, and hops they will believe him. Ian wants to go for a walk. He’s angry but also proud of Adam. Just after they go out, their phone rings and it goes to voicemail. Carina leaves a message saying that they’ll make great parents but that it isn’t going to work. She lives too far from Ambridge etc.
