Radio Times: Pip takes a hardline stance.

  • Pat stands in for Helen at Ambridge Organics, and discusses the Swap Club meeting with Jennifer. They agree that Susan saved the day with her persuasive speech. Ruth then calls in and there’s a distinct chill in the air. Pat braves the subject of the digester and the poster campaign, telling Ruth about Pip’s tirade in the village shop, and her rudeness to Susan.
  • Lilian fills Jennifer in on the visit to Matt’s mother. Matt is ancient history to Louise, and now he thinks he’s left it too late. Jennifer is sympathetic.
  • Ruth tells David what Pat told her, and they are overheard by Pip, who is far from penitent. She treats her parents to another lecture, and won’t back down. She thinks Susan IS smug and complacent.
  • David rings Matt about the digester meeting, saying that Annabelle saved the day but that the poster campaign is gathering strength. Matt’s mind is on other matters, though, and all he can say is that he’ll talk to David later
  • Ruth takes Pip a cup of tea, and receives another lecture for her pains. Ruth tries in vain to moderate Pip’s thinking, but is asked to leave so that Pip can do her homework.
  • Lilian pours Matt a drink, and he apologises for being too wrapped up in himself. He thinks a Christmas card should be his only contact with Louise; he means nothing to her and is simply a part of her past. Matt is clearly upset, and Lilian points out that he’s got her. Yes, says Matt without conviction, I’m a very lucky man.
