Pip tries hard to make amends; the Ambridge rumour mill goes into overdrive and Brian asks David to take sides; Toby gets the message, perhaps.

Radio Times: Lily gets her way. Toby gets the wrong idea

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Pip and Ruth discuss Elizabeth’s children. Ruth brings the subject around to how she’s getting on at Lower Loxley. All is well apparently. Ruth then asks if she’s missing home life at Brookfield but her reply is forestalled by David whooshing in. He arranges with Pip for her to help with hay cutting and servicing the equipment while he does other things. She leaves to start work. Ruth asks David not to expect too much of her; it’s just possible that Pip’s still punishing herself for the infection debacle.
  • At Lower Loxley, Lily bursts in on a phone conversation between Elizabeth and a troublesome client. It seems that Elizabeth may not have placed the correct floristry order for a forthcoming wedding. Lily pleads to be allowed to correct the error in order to free her mother for other things. Elsewhere, David meets Brian and asks him directly about the pig unit rumours. He replies that the BL board have only just agreed to the plan. Brian goes on to ask David for a favour.
  • Toby flags Pip down as she’s manoeuvring her tractor through a gate. She’s not best pleased especially when he wants to discuss text messages and his recurring nightmare brought on by watching too much BoJack Horseman. However, his offer of an evening drink is accepted. She’s had a hard day.
  • Ruth and David discuss BL’s plans. Ruth is happy to see the site put to good use but isn’t too keen on intensive pig rearing. David mentions that Brian’s asked him to speak informally in defence of the plan at Fridays PCC meeting. Pip comes in looking for a sandwich. David had a meeting with his bank manager and he’s offered to extend their mortgage. The two women are against the idea. Pip mentions her new plan of looking for contract milking to bolster the farm’s finances. Ruth is concerned that it could be too much work for her to undertake.
  • Elizabeth is amazed that Lily has sorted the problem out with her client and that everything is now confirmed. She jokingly offers her a job for the rest of the week, just as a very harassed looking Pip passes through on her way to The Bull. Lily insists that she can’t go out looking as she does and drags her off to attend to her hair and makeup.
  • Later, at The Bull, Pip bumps into a very appreciative Brian. He congratulates her on her glamorous look and leaves her to look for Toby. He too is mightily impressed and is flattered even though she insists that it’s not for his benefit. She flounces off to see Jonnie about tomorrows Young Farmers event leaving Toby in no uncertain mind about their relationship. At the bar, Brian apologises to Toby for not realising that he and Pip were together again, looking as wonderful as she does. Toby has to admit rather ruefully that unfortunately, they weren’t.
