Radio Times: Adam has an eventful birthday and Anisha draws a line

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Adam is celebrating his 50th birthday at Home Farm with friends. Freddie turns up to tell him that his mother has agreed to him working part-time for Adam. In his turn, Freddie has agreed to return to college to continue with his studies. He heads off to join the pickers just as Phoebe and Roy turn up. Phoebe gives Adam a gift, which he promises to open with his others later. Phoebe moves off to find Freddie and the rest of the pickers.
  • As promised, Rex meets Anisha at nets and apologises again for letting work get in the way of their last date. They agree to get their social act together. Better than that, Anisha suggests that they strike while the iron is hot. They should both dash off home, change out of their work togs and meet back at The Bull in 20 minutes. From there, they can go for a meal, away from Ambridge. Rex agrees like a shot.
  • Freddie is in his element chatting to Lexi, one of the pickers team leaders. Phoebe turns up and asks if Freddie knows any of the men that have just turned up. They seem intent on causing trouble, especially one who is chatting up a pickers girlfriend. Freddie seems to know several of them. Suddenly a pleasant evening threatens to turn into a brawl. Someone sets fire to a chair. Phoebe goes off to find Adam and Lexi wades in to calm things down.
  • In a virtually deserted Chinese restaurant far, far away, Rex and Anisha are finishing their non-too palatable meal. Rex claims to have booked the whole establishment in order to add a romantic ambience. Anisha reckons that he had failed, there is no ambience, romantic or otherwise. Indeed the place was deserted apart from them. However, their fortune cookies told an interesting tale, especially Rex’s. “The man/woman you desire feels the same about you.”
  • Adam ejects the gate-crashers with a warning not to return. Lexi sticks up for
  • “Mouse”, the picker who was protecting his girlfriend. Adam must surely know that “Mouse” was a peaceful soul who would never initiate trouble. Adam thanks her for her help and goes off to start clearing up. Both Phoebe and Freddie are in awe of how Lexi handled things. Phoebe comments that the invaders were truly horrible.
  • Rex sees Anisha home and the evening ends with…a kiss. Anisha feels that she’s being rushed. She’s enjoyed the night but there it ends for now. With a rattle of keys, she’s gone. At Home Farm, Roy comes over to find Phoebe. He’s been worried about her safety. Phoebe introduces him to Lexi, the saviour of the evening. Adam reckons that advertising the event on social media might have been a mistake. Phoebe sheepishly agrees. Still, no great harm was done. Lexi wishes Adam a happy birthday and they all raise their glasses. Phoebe wonders if they could arrange a full-scale riot next time. Perhaps not, muses Adam.
