• Tony’s not been altogether honest with Pat about his back, she thinks he was checking the tyre pressures on a trailer when it went, he doesn’t want her to know it was a injury from a drunken night in the pub. Richard (who’s prescribed some painkillers and anti-inflamatories) won’t tell, Neil’s lips are sealed, Eddie was trying to keep schtuum too …. only he failed. One slip of the tongue and Pat smells a rat and he serves only to dig himself into a deeper hole, no doubt big enough to accomodate Tony too!
• Tommy is happy because he’s passed his written driving test. He’s less happy with the news that, due to Tony’s injury, William is likely to play cricket tomorrow – at 15, he’ll be two years younger than when Tommy made his debut and that grates.
• Shula pops by the surgery to talk things over with Richard. She claims to be very confused, but his admission that she was one of the reasons for his and Usha’s parting, went some way to settling her mind and she admits that she doesn’t want him to go to Manchester. Later, having shared some afternoon delight, she claims to see things more clearly now and she knows what she must do next.
