Rob continues his schemes to have Helen all to himself. Final plans are laid for Jill’s move from Brookfield.
Radio Times: Rob looks for more structure, and Toby feels confident for Christmas.
Characters: David, Elizabeth, Helen, Jill, Rex, Rob, Toby- Rob reassures Helen that Henry is settling in well at school and there have been no more night-time accidents. He would like a weekly ‘date night’ with Helen, either cooking at home or going out – just the two of them – with Pat babysitting. Helen is not keen, saying she does not feel she needs it and would rather do more as a family. This will help Henry feel secure, and Rob is quick to point out that so will being his adoptive father. With time on his hands, he wants to explore how to go about it, but Helen wants to be involved too.
- Elizabeth and Jill make plans for her to move in on Friday. Ruth’s currently got the estate agents at Heather’s organising the marketing of her house. A difficult time, as Jill acknowledges, because houses hold so many memories. David expresses his guilt to Elizabeth, who reassures him that Jill will be in good hands and in honour of Jill’s 85th Birthday in a couple of weeks’ time, Elizabeth will organise a party.
- Rex is on tenterhooks over his sales pitch to Elizabeth last week as he’s still not heard from her – or any other potential customers. Toby berates him over his pessimistic outlook, as in his view there is plenty of time and besides, he’s confident about a potential order in the pipeline but won’t reveal the customer identity yet. He tries to cheer his brother up with a coffee and croissant, but Rex can’t put it out of his mind and wonders if he should be doing more to chase up Elizabeth. Toby cautions against this as it will come across as ‘desperate’ – maybe that’s where Rex goes wrong with women! Toby has a meeting with Max about the website, or rather, there’s a new girl working for Max – Gabriella.
- Rob and Johnny are working on the shop frontage and Rob is also building a livestock pen in the corner of the yard. Helen arrives with coffee and ginger biscuits, donated by Peggy, and is surprised and confused about the pen. Insistent that he discussed it with her, Tom, Tony and Pat, Rob persuades Helen that it must have slipped her mind. This is exactly what Rob has been saying: she’s overworking and her mind is too busy. She needs a night off to relax – how about tonight? They agree to make it on Thursday – with Henry.
- Jill, Elizabeth and David share a laugh over the outcome of Christine’s ginger biscuits. In future Christine will stick to what she does best: scones. David reveals the new trackways to Elizabeth, who fails to appreciate both their purpose and detailed work that Pip put in to bring them about.
