  • It’s a rude awakening for Peggy and Bill, as Christine knocks over the toothpaste in her excitement over today’s flower and produce show. Her hopes are dashed, when she discovers destruction in the kitchen: Bill must have got to her ginger biscuits. Nothing else for it but to bake another batch, which passes Peggy’s taste test and this time they are kept well away from Bill.
  • Bert and Carol are also making their preparations, as Bert cuts his prize marrow and Carol selects her climbing rose. Joe extols the virtues of well-rotted manure but does not specify the contents of the manure he grew his tomatoes in. Susan has entered beans, courgettes and carrots – as well as ginger biscuits. Carol’s also entered ginger biscuits, so there’s stiff competition for Christine.
  • Peggy is congratulated by her friends on her victory with Hazel Woolley. It earns her an apology from Susan for her harsh words about the shop. On the contrary, Susan’s outburst fired up Peggy to approach Hazel again and it has paid off. To ease her guilt, Susan insists on giving Peggy her ginger biscuits, which achieved second prize.
  • Christine’s disappointed with the judges’ comments about her over-baked ginger biscuits. Carol’s not in the least disappointed that her climbing rose was knocked off the top spot by a last minute entry from Bert. It’s a fitting tribute to Freda who loved her roses.
