Rob has Charlie on his back. Peggy comes up with a generous wedding present.

Radio Times: Charlie needs to dig deeper, and Peggy feels generous.

  • At his meeting with Charlie, Rob announces that he and Helen were married while they were on holiday. Berrow Farm ran smoothly while he was away but Charlie wants to talk about the last quarter’s figures; they are not good. Rob assures him that they know reasons and the issues are being sorted. The problem with the maize silage was an oversight but it’s back on track now. Charlie thinks there is more to it; they are missing something. He will be going into the figures himself – every aspect of the operation. Rob is not best pleased.
  • Ruth is still struggling to get her mother to accept that she will not be able to go home. They are going to see a likely care home today.
  • Peggy has heard the news about Helen and Rob’s marriage and comes to congratulate her. Tom is worried that they had rushed it through to spare his feelings, but it was what they both wanted.
  • Ruth has organised the interviews for a relief milker, to cover during her absence; there are three candidates and all look good on paper. She took her mum to see the home, Redpath Haven, but Heather had shut down – just not interested. She is looking forward to managing on her own again. No matter how many times Ruth tells her, it’s not going in.
  • Back at home Rob is still a bit tetchy. He is sharp with Henry, though not in Helen’s hearing. He is not pleased to hear the doorbell but manages to conjure up a full measure of smarm to greet Peggy. It’s just as well: she has brought a wedding present, a cheque for £10,000. They mildly protest that it is too much – but only mildly.
