Rob has things on his mind. Jennifer has no gardener. Shula has tickets to sell.
Radio Times: Jennifer is concerned and Rob is running late.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Jennifer, Rob, Shula, Susan- Jennifer is unable to contact Lilian. Adam has not heard from her either. But Jennifer has more serious worries; her gardener is off sick and she needs help in the garden. Brian is dismissive. He has much more important matters on hand, like inspecting the accommodation for the workers who are arriving next week.
- Rob calls at the shop, hung over and weary. Susan asks about his dairy workers, having already met the assistant herd manager. Are they all foreigners? She thought the idea was to create jobs locally… Rob is unable to explain that one, but wants to arrange some sort of deal whereby the workers could shop locally at a reasonable price. Susan is not sure, but suggests he ask Pat and Tony about veg boxes.
- When Jennifer arrives, she is surprised to see Rob, who is supposed to be meeting Brian and Adam. He has forgotten all about it. But Susan might have the solution to Jennifer’s horticultural crisis. Maybe one of the pickers would like extra work. That earns her some splendid patronising. Then Shula arrives, pushing tickets for the choir concert. Susan thinks the workers would like to come; after all, foreigners like that sort of thing. The idea earns her yet more patronising.
- Adam is impressed with the high standard of accommodation. Rob arrives claiming that his phone was not charged so he was unable to access his diary. After the tour they repair to The Bull for lunch, where Shula tries to make them all buy concert tickets. Brian is not pleased to learn that Jenny has already got his ticket. Adam manages to avoid being pinned down; Rob weakly claims that he might have to go to Hampshire that weekend, though does not seem entirely sure whether the visit would include seeing his wife.
- Jennifer asks Adam to find her a gardener from among his pickers. Brian thinks she should get a professional in, but Jennifer will not contemplate the idea. Word-weary Adam is forced to agree to ask them.
