  • David and Ruth discuss Peggy’s distress over the death of Ben, and the midsummer bonfire. David thinks the guests should bring their own food; he will ask Kenton if they can borrow the grill from The Bull. He will build the fire. Meanwhile they are looking forward to a drink at The Bull to celebrate Ruth’s birthday.
  • Lizzie is bowled over by the sights and sounds of the festival. She has lots of ideas to take back for Loxfest; if they are not used this year, they could be at the next festival. Lizzie offers to treat Roy to a cocktail and dinner at the pop-up restaurant, but as she dances she is knocking back the hot cider.
  • The Brookfield duo’s romantic drink is somewhat spoilt by the presence of Charlie. He wants to put things right with David after their recent spat. Ruth makes it abundantly clear that she has no time for Charlie or his ideas. Charlie tries to persuade them that Route B could be advantageous to them; they would get a lot of compensation, and could look at new ways of using their land. It could force them to make some big decisions- the possibilities are endless. Angrily, Ruth tells Charlie that they run a farm, not a business, but Charlie retorts by saying he would be excited if he were in their shoes.
  • A rather drunken Roy and Lizzie stagger back to their tents. As Lizzie almost trips on a guy-rope, Roy catches her and receives a kiss for his pains. And another. And another. Be careful, he says – that’s my tent you’re going in to. I know, says the mistress of Lower Loxley…
