Ruth feels she is being side-lined on the farm.

Radio Times: Brian gets stuck in, and Ruth feels left out.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • So much to do and not enough people to do it: Jeff has flu, so Adam recruits Brian to help out, taking silage to the ewes.
  • Pip’s Welsh mules have arrived – not what they are used to at Brookfield. Jill is due soon – back where she belongs – in fact here she is already; she must be keen. Perhaps Josh and Ben will stop making remarks about their mum’s cooking and all the take-aways.
  • Lynda is bringing Kirsty up to date on the casting for Calendar Girls and on the difficulties of dealing with Susan: her Yorkshire accent sounds more like Australian with a bit of Welsh thrown in. Helen has turned down the character of Ruth but Kirsty is interested, so they agree to do an audition later, when she and Lynda have finished work. Kathy has been critical of Lynda’s other commitments but she can’t complain about what happens after work.
  • Brian will never miss an opportunity to have a dig at Adam about the changes he has made, particularly the timing of lambing. Under the old system, the lambs would be inside by now; Brian thought his days of outdoor feeding ewes were over.
  • Ruth has discovered, by accident, that David has arranged for a contractor to do the AI work because of uncertainty back in August about Ruth’s availability – all perfectly reasonable but David omitted to ask or even tell Ruth. Big mistake! Ruth has a tantrum.
