  • Usha explains to Roy the various orders which are being pursued. If the blood test proves he is the father, the court will confirm this and Kate will not be able to stop him seeing the baby; a contact order will define the terms. In the meantime he needs some strong statements of his commitment to accepting his parental responsibility; perhaps his own parents would help. Roy cannot understand how Kate, who used to love him, can treat him this way. People change, observes Usha with feeling.
  • As they inspect the crops, Ruth is still giving David a hard time about being more loyal to his two-faced sister than to his wife. David suggests that Ruth directs her anger at Shula rather than at him.
  • Debbie has been chauffering Brian and Kate to visit a new solicitor. She bumps into Shula and confides that Brian now has the bit between his teeth. They are convinced, when Richard does the blood test tomorrow, it will prove that Roy is not the father but if it goes the other way things will get more intense. She is fearful for the baby and is trying to keep things calm.
  • David and Ruth are having a lunchtime drink at the Bull, in the midst of harvest too! Ruth forgives him, as long as it doesn’t happen again. Roy joins them for long enough to agree to support the cricket team but disappears quickly when Debbie approaches. Debbie is not surprised at this and confides that the court business will get worse before it gets better.
  • Shula has responded to Usha’s messages and calls at her office but the meeting is brief and to the point. It is about the stable partnership agreement. Usha feels that it would be best to pass Shula’s legal affairs onto one of her colleagues, who will be in touch. Shula would like to explain but that is clearly not on Usha’s agenda.
  • Alistair is at Brookfield to look at the sheep but they have not been sorted out. As he does this, David talks about the atmosphere between himself and Ruth, which is fallout from Richard and Shula. Of course, he had assumed that Shula had told Alistair about Richard. The news comes as a nasty surprise and Richard seems to be in mortal danger at that moment. Whether Alistair does anything silly, David will have to wait and see.
