  • Eddie recounts all the disorder created by builders trying to find the source of the leak at Grange Farm. Shula points out they have #1 The Green to go to which is convenient and cosy. When Shula asks when William will have things ready for the Grundys to move in, Eddie is noncommittal. It is when Shula mentions poachers that Eddie is moved to ask questions. Shula says that it seems to be a gang who are killing deer with dogs. Eddie is relieved and points out these poachers are different from local individuals who just want to feed their families. Shula asks if Eddie wants her to tell William to get in touch. Oh no, Eddie quickly answers. No need.
  • Elizabeth visits the A level college with Freddie but he is very negative despite Elizabeth’s attempts to get him to see opportunities and to have choices. They hurry on to their meeting with a tutor.
  • Shula and Caroline meet for tea. Shula confesses her angst over her rejected sandwiches. She also adds in the Puccini concert she was forced to attend with her mum. And Rob was at the cricket which made Shula feel guilty about not warning Helen. Alistair’s harsh comments when Shula wanted to go to the police contrasted with Richard’s advice. Shouldn’t Alistair be on Shula’s side? Caroline picks up on Shula’s feelings for Richard but is determined to cheer Shula up. Why not order chicken piri-piri, laughs Caroline?
  • Freddie is very disparaging about his poor A level results. He is comparing himself to his sister and Phoebe. He also tears down the institutional atmosphere and hints that he will take up drugs along with his studies. Elizabeth’s phone rings and Freddie tells her to be careful not to ‘catch’ anything in the loo.
  • Shula and Caroline see Eddie who has come to cadge a bun off Emma. Caroline despairs of repairing the house. Joe Grundy is also moaning that he wants to live out his days on Grange Farm. Oliver seems sympathetic. If they can’t sell, it is the end of the villa in Tuscany.
  • In the girls’ loo, Elizabeth returns Richard’s missed call. She is positive about the tour but she admits that the place is very different than the Cathedral School. It is not what Freddie is used to; he won’t get the individual attention and help he is used to. Richard wants to meet up again. Elizabeth invites him round for supper on Thursday.
