Shula may become joint master of the hunt but there is a financial snag.
Radio Times: Oliver has a question for Shula, and Tom comes clean to Helen.
Characters: Helen, Henry, Kirsty, Oliver, Roy, Shula, Tom- Tom arrives at Grey Gables to deliver ice cream to Ian and he finds a bemused Roy looking for a lost scooter. Kirsty stops by the front desk and briefly chats with Roy and an oddly quiet Tom before her tea break.
- Oliver arrives at Shula’s stables; he wishes to talk about the hunt which is due to begin soon. Oliver has been talking to farmers in the region and allaying fears and answering questions. Shula is looking forward to the start of the hunting season. Oliver loves her enthusiasm.
- Helen and an excited Henry come to help Tom with the courgettes but Henry runs off to find Granny Pat. Helen is eager to help with the planting because Tony is supervising Rob’s visit with Jack. Helen is worried about Tom’s interview but he doesn’t wish to discuss it. Helen pins Tom down about his loss of excitement over the Nuffield scholarship interview. Tom confesses that he thinks Helen should do the scholarship since the whole organic baby food line is her idea; she would love the travel. Tom is worried that Helen would be disappointed if Tom goes off with her plan. Helen argues she can’t begin to think of leaving the farm; she is happy with Tom taking charge of her idea. Helen then proposes to drive Tom on the morning of his interview. He has been known to change his mind at the last moment!
- Shula is surprised to find that Perry is resigning from his position as joint master of the hunt. Oliver presses Shula to consider assuming Perry’s spot. Shula is popular with the other hunters, notes Oliver, and she would be a good person to communicate with non-hunters and with farmers. The selection process won’t be difficult and Shula’s appointment is virtually assured.
- Kirsty asks Roy about Phoebe who is doing well. As they wait for the tea to brew, Kirsty despairs at Roy’s meal of peanut butter. Won’t he share some of her vegetables and salad? Roy sticks to his peanut butter sandwich but he is emboldened to ask Kirsty if things are starting up again with Tom. She denies it strongly but asks Roy about his entering the dating pool, especially now that Hayley has moved on. Where to begin, asks Roy? Kirsty says she can help but he must start with his clothes and that means giving up the Aston Villa top. The trousers make him look like a grandad, too. When Roy protests he hates shopping, Kirsty says they can look online.
- Oliver warns Shula about the monetary part of being joint master. She would have to stump up sometimes and the amount can reach 4 figures although it is split 3 ways. Shula is shocked at the monetary outlay and she declares she will have to speak to Alistair. Oliver hopes her decision will be the correct one for the sake of the hunt.
