  • Ed and Emma go to look at second-hand cars, but Emma shows no interest; she is concerned that they will not be able to afford the repayments. Ed admits that he is still angry with Will, especially Will’s insinuation that Ed is not capable of looking after his family.
  • Life at the Dower House continues to be difficult as Lilian cooks Sunday lunch. James insists on opening a bottle, but spills the contents, to Matt’s unconcealed annoyance. Then comes a ring at the door; it is Leonie, full of concern, having heard about James’ accident. Lilian is forced to invite her to join them for lunch.
  • Tense and stressed when Ed reads through the situations vacant column in a search for a second job, Emma shouts at George and sends him in tears to his room. When she goes to apologise, poor Emma hears George say that he thinks he should spend more time with Will because Ed and Emma have no money. Emma assures him that this is a matter for grown-ups and that they want George with them.
  • Lunch at The Dower House is dominated by Leonie’s affected outpourings of sympathy for ‘poor James.’ ‘Poor James’ laps up every minute of it, and a romantic reconciliation takes place. Matt storms out and refuses to take Lilian with him. If he is unable to relax in his own home, he will go to Borchester to see a business colleague – alone.
