Radio Times: Tom and Helen consider their options.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Tom comes to Bridge farm in search of some quiet to do some research. He agrees to have coffee with Helen at Jaxx later; he wants to tell her his latest thinking.
  • Caroline has slept in after a late night. She asked Shula back for a nightcap after the party, and offered a listening ear. Caroline finds Oliver sawing logs, and offers to cook him breakfast. When he comes in, it’s clear that he’s worried. Caroline coaxes him into telling her what’s wrong. It’s Ed; Oliver fully understands his enthusiasm for enlarging the herd, and wants to repay his loyalty and commitment, but really can’t consider the idea in what is, after all, a retirement project. Caroline’s relieved. She may have to lay off staff at Grey Gables in the down-turn, so greater expenditure isn’t on the cards.
  • In the shop, Susan tells Jolene about Neil’s reluctance to celebrate their silver wedding. Jolene thinks they should have a big party, and Susan later calls at the Bull to ask about booking the upstairs room. Jolene offers it for nothing, if they can do the catering. Fallon and Freda won’t be told whose the booking is, as Susan is determined to surprise Neil.
  • Tom has rung his existing customers to sound out their thoughts on going totally organic. The response was mixed, but he thinks there’s a fair degree of support. What he needs is a backer who’ll leave him to get on with it. Helen thinks he should bring his pigs to Bridge Farm. Pat and Tony took a risk when they went organic; now Tom should do the same.
