  • Rivalry is the name of the game at The Bull as Kenton decorates the restaurant in romantic velvet for his Valentines dinners while Jolene has a more edgy theme upstairs for her singles night.
  • As Helen puts Henry to bed, he wants Rob to read him a story, but as we all know, Rob is away for the night at a machinery show.
  • Neil and Susan arrive at The Bull just as PC Burns and his girlfriend turn up. The girlfriend, whose appearance evokes criticism from Susan, wants to change tables, so Neil obliges and Susan gives in with rather less grace. Jazzer arrives but the object of his affections, Melanie, does not.
  • Answering the door to a loud ring, Helen is faced with Jess. She asks her in, and makes coffee. An angry Jess is not interested in Helen’s declaration of a serious relationship with Rob, and tells her plainly that Rob’s story of a business trip is a lie.
  • Jolene’s music upsets the romantic atmosphere downstairs and there is some friction between Kenton and Jolene. PC Burns’ girlfriend dumps him before their meal even arrives, but Jazzer offers to eat it. He is somewhat taken aback to discover PC Burns’ occupation, but suggests that they both go upstairs and try their luck at the singles night.
  • Helen continues to stress how much in love she and Rob are, and how this is not just a fling, but scornful Jess is not impressed. Helen knows nothing about him. Does she know where he was last Thursday? Of course she does; he was seeing a feed company in Harlow. Oh no he wasn’t, Helen. He was in Jess’s bed.
