Radio Times: Justin gets an unexpected offer, and it is a busy evening at nets.
Characters: Harrison, Justin, Kenton, Lilian, Matt, Neil, Susan, Usha- In the shop Susan enjoys relating the saga of Justin’s proposal in The Bull and Lilian’s reaction to Matt, who assures her that he intends to be around in Ambridge for some time yet. Neil calls in to remind Susan about open nets, but it seems that, having made her point, Susan is no longer interested. Where is your sense of female solidarity? asks Neil
- With Susan’s news clearly on his mind, Matt pursues Lilian, who grows increasingly flustered. Matt proceeds to taunt her, adding that she will eventually tire of Justin just as she did of him. Lilian tears up his cheque and flings it in his face; she has need of neither his money nor him.
- Open nets gets under way with several younger players taking part, though Harrison is disappointed that his peace offering has not attracted the more mature ladies. Usha finally arrives, and it is universally agreed by the Harrison Kenton Neil trio that she is awful at cricket. Then Susan arrives, seemingly having changed her mind, but apparently to show sisterly solidarity. When she takes the bat the trio are amazed; she is wonderful. Usha accepts that cricket is not for her, but Harrison has other plans; he wants her to become an inspirational coach.
- Lilian bursts in on Justin and declares that Matt has brought her to her senses. Does Justin still want to marry her? Amazed and somewhat mystified, Justin struggles for the right response, but when Lilian goes down on bended knee and makes a formal proposal, a heartfelt ‘of course’ is uttered. Lilian tells him Matt’s return has made her recall the hell he put her through. Just name the day, declares Justin.
