There are uncomfortable conversations all round for Jennifer, David, Jolene and Ruth. Pip’s through to the next round of interviews.
Radio Times: There’s a dilemma for David and Jennifer, and Jolene defends her man.
Characters: David, Jennifer, Jolene, Pip, Ruth, Stefan- Jolene suspects Pip’s early visit to The Bull has something to do with David, but she’s come to ask Jolene if she and Kenton can run the next bar for the Young Farmers social. Ruth thanks Pip for her thoughtfulness in putting some work Kenton and Jolene’s way, as they could do with a break. Ruth later bumps into Jolene and urges her to persuade Kenton to reconsider David’s offer of financial assistance. Jolene declines, stating that they will manage, just as they have when they’ve previously fallen on tough times. Jolene makes clear that this rift may be irreconcilable as Kenton feels so badly let down by David.
- According to Lynda, neither Ambridge Aviators nor The Bull Birders won the bird competition. It was a dead heat between them and the prize was lifted by one of the other entrants. It emerges that Kenton’s vehicle ran out of petrol, so Jim abandoned him and booked a taxi to continue the course. Molly Button had been their secret informant, spotting a red kite.
- Jennifer and David are on their secret assignation at a coffee shop to meet Stefan. He needs their word that his name will not be mentioned in connection with what he is about to tell them. Stefan goes on to say he wasn’t on duty the night of the flood and took a walk, when he observed Rob Titchener. It was dark and raining but Stefan is almost certain that Rob was blocking up one of the culverts with corrugated iron sheets and black plastic. Stefan wanted to remain unseen so Rob went unchallenged. At the time Stefan didn’t want to get involved, as he enjoys his job, but since has realised that someone could have died in the flood.
- Rex and Toby Fairbrother have viewed the land at Pear Tree Farm and made an offer. Pip acknowledges to Ruth that she likes the brothers and disappointingly may not stay around long enough to get to know them, as she has reached the next round of interviews for the job which may take her abroad.
- Jennifer and David reflect on what they have been told and wonder if Charlie Thomas may have been aware if anything untoward took place on the night of the flood. David thinks the next logical step is to speak to Charlie, as previous conversations with Rob about the matter were abruptly closed down by Rob.
