Toby’s latest plan gets underway, but what thoughts will Lynda have; Kenton’s plan is at last made public.

Radio Times: Toby searches high and low, and Kenton plans a surprise.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Kenton presents Jolene with a cuppa and a bunch of flowers in bed as part of his wedding anniversary gift. Jolene has bought him a Game of Thrones box set. He tells her that breakfast in bed will follow shortly. They chat about how good business has been so far this year, such an improvement on the year before. And, if Jolene will stay put, Kenton announces that he has another surprise lined up.
  • Pip asks Toby just why she keeps seeing him poking around in hedgerows. It’s his latest business plan. He’s foraging for berries, herbs and so forth in order to make flavoured drinks. Kenton reckons that there is mileage in the idea. His only problem is that berries are thin on the ground. Pip points out that it’s November after all, but admires his single Spindle Berry sample. It’s just a shame that it’s toxic!
  • Jolene finds Kenton secretly leaving a phone message for Fallon. He passes it off as a call to his wine suppliers. He’s found The Joker mask worn by Rob in the men’s toilets and threatens to keep it. Jolene isn’t keen. Alice appears and tries to talk Kenton into taking the role of the Goose in her pantomime, with little success. Jolene suggests that it may be more productive to hold auditions as Lynda used to. Alice wanders off to give it some thought.
  • Toby calls in to see Eddie as he looks after Lynda’s llamas. He’s heard of her herb garden and wonders if it could prove a useful resource. Alice appears, having spotted Toby’s pickup. She invites him to audition for the part of the Goose on Friday. He refuses, as his new business venture will keep him busy. Then Eddie withdraws his offer for his family to take part. He can’t support a rival’s product (geese) at Christmas and that’s his final word. Alice is in a state of despair.
  • Kenton takes a call from Fallon, with a whoop of delight. A morose Eddie wonders what the celebration is about, as does Jolene who comes in to see what’s going on. Kenton spills the beans. Fallon will look after the pub for one night next week, while he and Jolene spend the night at a super luxury hotel and spa, with all the trimmings. Jolene is over the moon; Eddie sinks further into his state of misery. He has no chance of providing anything similar for Clarrie’s anniversary gift next week.
  • Toby arrives home with a monster collection of foraged goods and some herbs from Lynda’s garden. Worse, he’s “borrowed” some dried herbs from her shed. Pip is horrified. Toby insists that it’s the time to make up some experimental drinks using gin as a base. Pip’s not at all convinced but, as usual, Toby is totally enthused. But … what will Lynda say?
