Tony goes from strength to strength; Johnny feels not right for the job; how will Helen take the news about Jess?
Radio Times: Pat has got plenty to celebrate, and there is a shock for Rob and Helen.
Characters: Helen, Henry, Johnny, Pat, Rob, Tom, Tony- On a visit to Tony, Pat is overjoyed to find him sitting out of bed, and almost full of the joys of spring.
- Tom and Johnny are working together at Bridge Farm when Helen calls in with Henry to deliver Pat’s birthday cake for tea. She thanks Johnny for his extra help in the recent emergency. However, she draws his attention to a wrongly filled order that he did in the shop and gently asks him to double check when processing the paperwork in future. He takes her words as a reprimand rather than well-intentioned advice.
- Tony gives Pat her birthday present of perfume. Pat is close to tears recalling the time not that long ago when all she wanted was the survival of her husband. Tony remarks that one of the few things that he remembered on the day of the accident Pat saying shortly after the accident was “Don’t you dare leave me”. Pat is amazed.
- Jenny tells Lynda that the Echo and the Courier seem unwilling to run the story about the Ambridge hub. Lynda explains that she has just missed the chance of borrowing an old horse drawn plough for possible SAVE publicity on the upcoming Plough Monday. However, it would make such a wonderful photo opportunity, Lynda is still looking around.
- Pat blows out the candles on her cake. There’s no sign of a bed in Felpersham for Tony, but at least he is taking an interest in what’s happening on the farm and in the shop. Rob reckons that Tina has coped well in tricky circumstances.
- Helen’s plans to help Tina meet with stony disapproval from Rob who sees it as unfair “hovering”. After reading Henry his story, Rob opens the morning post that Helen has brought through. There’s one from the Child Maintenance Service in Belfast. Jess has named Rob as the father of her child. Helen is aghast; it can’t be Robs, it must be a mistake… mustn’t it?
