Usha organises the Ambridge women against Harrison and Jill bakes a cake for Kirsty.

Radio Times: Usha rallies the troops, and Jill does a good deed.

Characters: Jennifer, Jill, Kirsty, Lynda, Susan, Usha

• On her cycle going to work, Lynda is almost wiped out by a speeding lorry. Jill comes to the rescue and agrees that something must be done.
• Usha tries to convince Susan to come to a meeting. We don’t hear what the meeting is about and Susan is lukewarm until she hears who else is attending. She gives a lacklustre promise to come. As Usha leaves the village shop, Jennifer enters to buy some stamps. Susan is quite eager to gossip about Lilian and Justin with Jennifer. Jennifer keeps saying she is late and must go; when Susan continues to press for inside information on the romance, Jennifer claims ignorance.
• Kirsty talks to Jill and reports about the meeting with the consultant. Kirsty brings up her failure to bake an acceptable cake to thank her co-workers for their support. Kirsty tells Jill with a sigh that she must buy a shop-bought cake after all.
• Lynda discusses the traffic speeding issue with Usha. Lynda tends to blame Harrison for the speeders; she wants a speed gun and high-vis jackets. Harrison claims that Darrington is using the equipment all the time and nothing can be spared for Ambridge. Usha is suddenly interested when Lynda brings up Harrison’s name. Usha tells Lynda that she is trying to organise a meeting for women in their 40s and 50s to oppose discrimination. Lynda asks if women over 60 are to be discriminated against by not being invited to the meeting. Usha is flustered and says of course she must come.
• Kirsty can’t face the meeting but asks Lynda to give everyone her best. Lynda’s special Mothering Sunday went very well with masseurs from Kate’s business. Lynda sniffs when Kirsty mentions that the Grundys’ weekend visitors caused chaos and ill-tempers all round. Jill enters with one of her cakes and gives it to Kirsty. When you have baked as many cakes as Jill, it isn’t difficult. And, Jill adds, she can guarantee it is better than shop-bought.
• Usha notes that young women are attending the meeting as well to support the older women. It turns out that Usha is angry because Harrison has kicked her off the team. Susan interjects that surely this is Harrison’s job to select the players. But Usha points out that there are several older men who can’t even run and they are on the team. She is convinced Harrison is being ageist and sexist. The time for direct action has come. Harrison Burns needs to learn what the women of Ambridge are made of.
