  • Adam meets Pip out for a run before her last exam. She tells him Heather isn’t well still so David is very busy and still not happy about Open Farm Sunday. Pip says she wonders if people think their farm is behind the times instead of looking to the future. Adam says he isn’t so sure and offers to show her what he means.
  • Lynda, Alice and Jill meet at Brookfield for the fete committee meeting. Jim sends his apologies because of a dentist appointment and Kenton manages to find a suddenly essential MOT to avoid his need to turn up.
  • Adam show Pip his new grazing area. He thinks the tide in farming may finally be turning. The high tech/high input method that pushes up margins in the short term could lead farming towards disaster in the long time. He’s beginning to think mixed farm may not be so old fashioned after all. She says she’s never thought about it like that before.
  • When Jill finally settles into the meeting, she says there is bad news. The Highways department will be digging up most of the village green all over the summer as part of the new flood prevention scheme. They consider alternatives such as the Jubilee Field but that’s still too boggy. They will just have to accept that there is to be no village fete in Ambridge this year.
  • Adam takes a phone call from Charlie who invites him to lunch. Adam gives Charlie a lecture on his newly refound green credentials. Charlies says he hopes it won’t stop them being friends.
