• Caroline’s short-staffed at Grey Gables after Lynda’s temporary replaced didn’t turn up and a waiter has resigned in the wake of a Jean-Paul tantrum, Pat mentions this to Roy, who offers himself as a replacement.
• Clarrie’s looking forward to the weekend’s break in France – especially as Joe has told some white lies about the state of the situation with Simon.
• Mary Jo considers the farm shop cute, but is very taken with Pat’s ice cream – 5 litres taken in fact – but she is a fitness consultant, though seemingly not a practitioner of her own pronouncements. She meets Julia at Grey Gables and later annoys Kathy in the Hassett Room by opening the windows to listen to the bells and by allowing Julia to keep her “usual” table.
• Al has been going through the church records researching on some Borchester deportees who ended up in Kansas.
