  • Kathy is enjoying her teaching and has taken up the chance of an extra day, since Jamie is happy with the new child-minder. Betty is still going to look after the Bull this evening but needs a lift home to Willow Farm afterwards.
  • Phil is celebrating his 70th birthday; Jill has given him a trip in a hot air balloon. Shula’s present is still to come and so, in part is Nigel and Elizabeth’s; they have bought him a conductor’s baton and arranged for him to conduct at the Lower Loxley Summer Spectacular. Kenton remembered to ring.
  • Tommy is disappointed not to have been selected for the cricket team but hopes to enlist Tony’s help some extra nets to boost his chances next time. At least he is confident of his pig skills; Eric is behaving himself in the middle of the pen.
  • The Archer’s take Phil to the Bull for a celebratory drink, although Pat does not feel up to going. As she serves the drinks, Betty confides to Ruth that she is less than satisfied with Kate as a shop assistant, also that her health food diet has been temporarily supplemented with a penchant for caramel whirls!
  • Sid and Kathy return quite early from the Mont Blanc which was not an unqualified success because Kathy was tired and Sid confrontational, after a few drinks. The food was good but turned out to have been cooked by the same chef who was such a disaster recently at the Bull.
  • On reaching Willow Farm, Kathy and Betty investigate a figure with a torch. It is Tommy on the trail of an escaped boar; clearly Eric’s training is not as advanced as he thought!
