  • Richard and Usha are returning to some form of normality, with a recognition that they’re treading on eggshells and a false level of spology.
  • Joe’s slightly defeatist, questioning the point of working, although he’s pleased that the calf has been named in his honour. Clarrie thinks they deserve a drink and finds a secreted fiver for them from a vase.
  • Barraclough is tying up some loose ends before putting Ambridge behind him and is going to spending the evening at the Bull too.
  • Richard is in the Bull as well and runs into Barraclough who starts up with his normal routine, about how Richard killed his mother and doesn’t he recognise the truth. Richard finally snaps and accuses he of being sad and guilty and persecuting him in the face of his own failings. Barraclough threatens further legal action, to which Richard responds by mentioning the small matter of him just slandering him over a murder accusation! Betty kicks him out of the pub to cheers from all.
  • Eddie and Joe are being bought drinks and the fiver remains untouched – an omen which Eddie takes as being symbolic for the new year.
