Relations between the Grundy brothers are strained. Lynda takes the flak for her recipe changes.
Radio Times: Will loses his cool, and Shula feels let down.
Characters: Daniel, Darrell, Ed, Emma, George, Lynda, Shula, William- Darrell is in a panic because he can’t find his spirit level; he’s left it at the site, or he’s left it in the van and one of those jokers will have nicked it. No they won’t because it was in his toolbag all the time. He leaves for work in a rush.
- George doesn’t yet know about Bas; Ed is struggling to work out how and when to tell him. Meanwhile William has tried several times to phone; how did George take the news; will he want to be there when Will buries the dog? Emma promises to tell him as soon as he gets back from school.
- There will be others but Shula is the first; she discovers that, in Appetising Ambridge, her recipe has been edited. Lynda is totally unapologetic, assuring Shula that next time she makes her chutney it will taste even better.
- Darrell is back early and though he tries to be economical with the truth, Daniel sees through the story: he has been laid off. Darrell admits that he messed up; they kept pushing him and he got confused; he couldn’t think straight. Shula is disappointed but still sympathetic; Daniel’s view (can’t get used to calling him Dan) is simple and stark: Darrell is a loser and Shula is wasting her time.
- When Ed brings George home they get straight down to telling him about Bas. He is upset but is reassured that Bas is in heaven. William turns up bent on extracting from Ed an admission that he shot the dog in cold blood. That’s not going to happen. Ed resists Will’s goading and slams the door in his face.
