Charlie makes more enemies in Ambridge.

Radio Times: Ruth gets a shock, and Charlie loses his cool.

Characters: Charlie, Ed, Harrison, Kenton, Rob, Ruth

• Ed asks Ruth if any work is available but Harrison Burns shows up and asks for Ben. Ruth wants to know what he has done.
• Ben tries to deny he was even in the village when the brick was thrown at Charlie but Ruth tells him that she saw him there with Freddie. After a bit of questioning, it appears that Freddie actually threw the brick. It was a protest, declares Ben. A very angry Ruth says a phone call will show how sorry Ben is.
• Over lunch at The Bull, Charlie tells Rob he must be available for questions on the open day for the proposed digester. Rob objects to defending the new operation because outside waste will have to be brought through the village. Rob notes this new digester will be controversial and is not part of his remit. Charlie is threatening and Rob finally is forced to agree to appear at the open day.
• Ben, Ruth and Harrison enter The Bull and Ben is made to apologise to Charlie. When asked why he did it, Ben replies defiantly that it was because the road will go right through his family’s farm. Charlie is condescending and lectures Ben that he should argue rather than throw things when he disagrees with others. Meanwhile, Harrison tells Kenton that he thinks he has found a suitable, very cheap vehicle for Fallon. Kenton jokes that perhaps it has a ‘hot’ engine and that explains the price.
• Underscoring that The Bull is the hotspot of Ambridge, Ed turns up and sees Charlie. He goes over to apologise for the trouble with the combine and asks for other work. Charlie is abrasive and offensive. Rob tries to intervene but Charlie retorts that Ed just isn’t good enough. An argument erupts with Charlie shouting insults about yokels in The Bull, of all places. Rob manages to make Charlie stop with the invectives by pointing out that this will hardly help win local support for the new digester.
