Brian doesn’t want David to sell up and drink does no favours for Ed or Roy.

Radio Times: Roy goes a step too far, and Ed disgraces himself.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Silence falls as Roy enters The Bull. Brian tries to give him a few words of encouragement, but Jazzer’s ribbing is relentless.
  • David tells Brian that he and Ruth are staying in Northumberland for a visit with Heather after seeing the farm on offer. Pip seems to be taking it all in her stride. Brian is distressed and begins reminiscing with lots of praise for David and his support in the past. He argues that David should give up dairy; perhaps he could turn to BL? David is discouraging and would rather move than have Brookfield lose its soul.
  • Jazzer is trying to influence Ed and Roy to enter a fancy dress contest and split the cash prize. Ed is determined to continue the dirge about his future although he seems to have plenty of money to spend on drink in the pub. Jazzer encourages Ed to diversify and focus on the sheep shearing. Roy joins Ed in the Ambridge slough of despond and the heavy drinking doesn’t help anyone’s mood except for Jazzer.
  • Oh dear, oh dear. Roy finds himself outside Elizabeth’s bedroom window and he shouts for her to open up. He wants to come in and talk for five minutes and then he’ll shut up and go.
  • Susan surprises the very drunk Ed as he arrives home and wants a hug. She just needs to loosen up, Ed declares. As Susan berates him, Ed is sick all over the sofa. The Horror! The Horror!
  • Roy can’t go home because it is too lonely. Elizabeth tries to get coffee into him. Roy only talks about Hayley and how good she is but she will never forgive him. As Roy sobs, Elizabeth stresses that they will both get through this. Roy makes a pass at Elizabeth but she rebuffs him and announces that she is calling him a cab.
