Grange Farm has vandals and Helen’s ambitions are thwarted at every turn by Rob.
Radio Times: There is another case for PC Harrison Burns, and Helen senses an opportunity.
Characters: Clarrie, Ed, Harrison, Helen, Rob, Susan- Susan manages to tell Clarrie after many diversions about a break-in at Grange Farm which called Ed out in the middle of the night. PC Burns talks to Ed about his answering the alarm since he is the key holder while Caroline and Oliver are away. CCTV didn’t pick up anything. The thieves didn’t get upstairs and may have picked up a television and a few other small electronics although they did trash the downstairs.
- Rob fusses at Helen for carrying a paint tin. Rob tells her that he has talked to Henry’s teacher about his hand. Helen is pushing herself too hard, intones Rob. Helen counters that many women work right up to delivery but Rob says he is there to take care of her and she needn’t worry about that. He sends Helen home to put her feet up.
- Harrison calls the vandalism to Grange Farm completely pointless. Ed says some of the incidents lately aren’t so minor when it involves the loss of animals.
- Susan complains about Helen’s new place competing with the village shop but Clarrie is concerned about losing the Grundys’ room at Grey Gables while they have nowhere else to go. Susan counsels that Clarrie should remember these negative feelings to inform her future acting career. Hilariously, Susan has been trying to help Neil with his part in the upcoming production. Neil plays a thoughtful, caring husband whose wife is always pushing him to get ahead with disastrous results. Susan innocently declares that Neil just can’t get into his part because he has no experience with this type! Her character is supposed to have ‘an accent’ and to prepare Susan announces that she is following Johnny around whenever she can. Clarrie mutters she is sure Johnny is very flattered.
- Helen tells Rob that Lynda has asked her to be one of the Calendar Girls. Rob scoffs and laughs that Henry would be mercilessly teased if Helen took her clothes off in public. Helen shows a job advert to Rob since it seems to fit his strengths so well. Rob takes it a bit more seriously when he hears that Tom has found the position; however, Rob seems to dismiss the prospect of taking on employment only 2 weeks before the shop opening. Hmmm.
