Helen comes close to opening-up to Kirsty. Perhaps soon?

Radio Times: Ed’s feeling nervous, and Helen is getting pampered.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Just before taking Helen to her “pamper day”, Rob grasps the opportunity to berate Ian for his rudeness to her. He believes that they would be better off without both Ian and Adam. Helen regrets him mentioning Adam’s kiss to Ian in the first place. Rob wonders just where her priorities lie. Surely she can’t blame him for what’s happened… can she?
  • At St Stephen’s, Clarrie, Alan and Shula discuss the current state of farming just before the start of the Plough Sunday service. Ed arrives with the plough. He’s on tenterhooks about speaking in public. Alan speaks of hope, enterprise and optimism; Ed manages to speak without error and the service gets underway.
  • Rob drops Helen at Grey Gables with a long list of do’s and don’ts. She meets up with Kirsty who passes comment about how pale she looks. She also wonders if Helen’s lost weight. She blames the Christmas rush and the shop development and mentions rather weakly that Rob thinks she’s blooming. Kirsty sounds unconvinced as they head off for their day of relaxation.
  • Later, the two girls exchange “therapy” experiences and talk turns to how Helen’s doing. Kirsty picks up on the fact that her life seems to revolve almost entirely around Rob and his wishes. Helen’s phone rings. It’s Rob, of course, wanting to know when he should collect her. Much to his annoyance, Helen accepts Kirsty’s offer of a lift home. It’s not what they’d planned but she won’t be late. Well done Helen!
  • Alan congratulates Ed on his contribution to the service. Clarrie asks Shula if she’s going to the Twelve Night Wassail, but she leaves saying that it’s not her sort of thing, but wishes them all well. Clarrie thoughtfully compares Wassail to Plough Sunday, both events look forward to a good year ahead.
  • Helen arrives home late with Kirsty. Supper has been waiting some time. Kirsty feels that Helen looks so much better. They must do something similar again. She whispers that Helen should phone her if she needs a chat; Helen replies that she will, but she’s OK… really. Kirsty leaves sensing Rob’s less than warm welcome. He’s glad to see her go, claiming that she and Helen aren’t exactly “bosom pals”. Barely even friends in fact!
