Characters: Jill, Mike, Neil, Phil, Ruth, Sid, Tony
- David’s still not feeling socialable, not thinking that the situation was bad luck. Ruth used the phrase “to be fair” when discussing Phil’s decision, admitting that, considering the state of the market, he might well have been right to hold off.
- Tony, Mike and Neil are knocking them back in the Bull, bemoaning the feudal system, not really seeing that being a tenant farmer is little different than being a worker for a company. He really wants to know who is to be his new landlord.
- Phil admits to Jill that it may well be that he feels more comfortable talking about farm issues with Ruth than David. Jill suggests she be made a partner in the business.
