Adam has a showdown with Matt. Joe makes a new friend. The dig continues, with interesting results.

• The archaeological investigation reveals some interesting facts, not least a belt buckle, which should enable them to date the find accurately. Jennifer is delighted, but Eddie’s not; he was hoping for a horde of gold, to make him a rich man.
• Adam has to face Matt about the digester, and he’s not looking forward to it. Matt is his customary blustering and swaggering self, but for once, Adam stands his ground. Matt implies that he and Annabelle will look for other partners if Adam wants to join David in backing out – but he’s sure Debbie will see sense.
• At the dig, Eddie introduces a reluctant Joe to the Canadian holiday-maker, Mildred. Joe soon discovers that she’s actually a Borsetshire girl, who is longing to find her roots. They hit it off in a big way, and soon Joe is offering to show her round.
