Adam plays a trump card and Pip thinks she will do the same.

Radio Times: Pip and Toby make plans, and Adam takes advice.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • After a pleasant if crowded shopping trip with Ian, Adam calls on Peggy and they discuss Brian’s land purchase scheme. Adam repeats his concerns for soil fertility, and is surprised when Peggy expresses her support for Brian, who only wants to pass on more to his children than he started with.
  • Unlike her mother, Jennifer is still full of anxiety at Brian’s plan to liquidate their savings. When Brian points out that their accountant thinks it feasible, she remains unconvinced. Adam then appears, and asks Brian why he has not discussed it with Debbie. Wrong-footed, Brian claims that it is impossible to reach her by phone; a triumphant Adam counters this by saying he had no trouble and Debbie was firmly against the venture. An angry Brian accuses Adam of having misrepresented matters; he will speak to Debbie himself and will soon talk her round.
  • Toby reveals his set-to with Jill. Pip is upset, and Toby offers to go away for Christmas so that she can spend it with her family. No, says Pip. You are my boyfriend and if they can’t accept that they will have to do without me. She and Toby will have their own Christmas at Rickyard Cottage. There are some who might feel the Brookfield entourage will have the best of that bargain.
