Adam shares his thoughts with Brian but doesn’t get the expected response.

Radio Times: Brian offloads his concerns, and Susan has a nose round Home Farm.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Neil arrives at Home Farm to collect pallets for the village bonfire. Susan is in tow. It doesn’t take him long to realise that Susan’s presence is not necessarily purely social. He surmises, quite rightly, that she wants to discuss photographers with Brian. Neil arranges to call in for her when his work is done.
  • Adam is giving Brian the lowdown on Rob’s recent visit when Susan breezes in. She wonders what Rob’s up to now and Adam tells her. She compares Rob to a playground bully. Adam heads back to work and Brian offers to come and see him for further discussions later in the afternoon. Brian rushes to retrieve some of Jenny’s cakes from the oven. Susan accepts his rash offer of tea and cakes without a second thought for her diet. And while she’s there, she takes the opportunity to ask a favour.
  • Kirsty finds Roy texting tomorrow’s date. He’s taking the opportunity to swap a meal and a drink at a tapas bar for a slice of pizza somewhere. He rather fancies a more neutral venue, more casual, less formal. Kirsty is less than impressed with the idea, especially when Roy offers to show her his dates photograph. She’s a stunner.
  • Back at Home Farm, Susan engages Brian in conversation regarding family photographs. He searches one out from the sideboard, taken on their 40th wedding anniversary. She tries her best to sound enthusiastic but doesn’t manage to pull it off. Neil wonders in having finished loading pallets and Brian takes the opportunity to rush off and find more photographs. His offer of tea and cakes piques Neil’s interest but Susan steps in to prevent him consuming wasteful calories. Was Susan’s cake calorie free then?
  • Roy returns home and shares a meal with Kirsty. She’s concerned to hear that his planned romantic evening meal with his date has been dropped in favour of a lunchtime cake and a coffee. Roy insists that it’s casual, in order to assess their compatibility. Yes, smiles a bemused Kirsty… perhaps so!
  • Brian meets Adam, glad to have got away from Susan. Adam admits that Rob’s visit left him feeling bruised but Rob knew that the no-till system was a long-term trial, approved by the Demara board. It’s just too early to tell. Brian offers sympathy but insists that the Autumn-sown crops do seem to be in a parlous state. Perhaps Rob may have the germ of an argument. In addition, Justin is their paymaster. The Home Farm livelihood is at stake; Justin has a powerful voice, and seemingly now, so does Rob.
