Alan tries to help Rob but his efforts are rejected.

Radio Times: Rob finds someone who will listen, and Toby seeks inspiration.

  • Seeking ideas to make his fortune, Toby pays a visit to the Grundys. He is interested in their limited edition cider. Being limited, it is strictly for members of the cider club, though Joe is easily persuaded to sell him temporary membership: a tenner for tonight but they want to know how he really got thumped.
  • Alan bumps into Rob outside the shop. He was planning to visit him anyway: Ursula had asked him to check up on her son after today’s appointment with the psychologist. Alan offers him a lift home, though he has to endure snide comments about Christian charity.
  • Not over-impressed with the cider, Toby moves on to the sloe gin; that’ll be another fiver. The Grundys suspect that his brother gave him the black eye.
  • Apart from the ridiculous psychometric tests, Rob has just heard in the shop that his wife is divorcing him. He is confident that he will be able to change his son’s name to Gideon and the sooner Helen is out of his life, and his son’s life, the better.
  • After packing a rather inebriated Toby off, Eddie gets a text from Alice: the panto is to be Mother Goose. No way is Eddie going to be involved in a big advertisement for the Fairbrothers’ geese; the Grundys will have nothing to do with it.
  • Alan declares that he will keep in touch. Why? Is it his conscience because his wife is chucking Rob out of his home? Alan wants to heal the whole parish but Rob declares himself beyond redemption. Alan will not be drawn into an argument over Helen’s ‘lies’ about Rob and promises to pray for him but Rob is adamant that he doesn’t need, and has no time for, Alan’s help.
