Alistair tells Kenton the whole story. Ed begs Emma to change her mind.

Radio Times: Kenton has some words of wisdom.

Characters: , , ,
  • It’s a day of emotional crises. Ed begs Emma not to go back to her parents with George, but she’s adamant; the caravan isn’t safe for George now he’s walking. Desperately, Ed promises to make it safer, and reminds Emma he’s got a better job now, so soon they will be able to move. But Emma won’t be budged.
  • Kenton, with unusual diplomacy, encourages Alistair to tell him what’s wrong. Even the maverick Kenton is startled when he learns that Alistair is £100K in debt, and can’t see any way of raising the money. He’s scared Matt will either send in the heavies or make him bankrupt. Then he tells Kenton about Matt’s plan to raise money by nobbling his racehorse. How can Alistair go to Shula and tell her all this? He’d be better packing his bags and disappearing.
  • Poor Ed asks Emma what she thinks will happen to him. He can’t stay at the caravan, he can’t afford a place of his own, and Eddie will never have him back at Keeper’s Cottage. He reminds her that he gave up his job, his mates and his family for her, and now she’s throwing it all in his face. Emma tries to tell Ed that she still loves and needs him, but he can only feel that she’s used him.
  • Kenton tells Alistair that he spoke to Shula on Monday. He knows that she loves Alistair, and wants him back. Alistair admits that he still loves her, but thinks things have gone too far. Kenton offers concerned encouragement; you can do it, he says, it’s not too late.
