Ambridge says farewell.

Radio Times: Ambridge says farewell.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Tom and Pru’s funeral sees the village celebrating their lives with affection, Jill reads Pru’s favourite poem, George reminisces about some of their achievements and Hayley talks about what a friend Tom had been to her – reminding everyone not just about his countryside experience and wisdom but his stubborness and humanity. Janet reveals that the collection will go towards the new bells and that one of them will have a casting in their honour and be named “Old Tom”
  • Brian has an appointment with a busy Matt Crawford at the exact time of the funeral and is not impressed. He’s even less impressed with Matt’s reporting that their partners think that Brian could be more proactive in raising Borchester Land’s image in the village and perhaps Brian might start this by seeing whether any of their neighbours or tenants might be interesting in selling/releasing land to them? Brian’s not amused at the proposition, but goes along with it.
  • The wake sees people continuing to remember them fondly, that they’d be touched at the way the village reacted today – with George commenting that Tom would probably be embarrassed at the fuss! But Jill mentions that Tom dearly loved the village and that is it any wonder that the village should thank him? (Aside: I imagine, that this was also the programme thanking Bob Arnold and paying their fitting respects to him and his contribution to the programme.)
