Anisha shows a competitive streak; Rex is almost flat broke.
Radio Times: Rex leaves no stone unturned, and could Jazzer have met his match?
Characters: Anisha, Bert, David, Kenton, Rex, Toby- Rex tries his best to get David to give him some temporary work at Brookfield. Bert backs him up but agrees with David that he has few skills that the farm needs. Rex makes his way to the village. Bert tells David that Usha has asked him to trim a hedge at Blossom Hill. Meanwhile, David is to give Lily some driving practice.
- Rex phones Toby and virtually begs him to pay what he owes for his recent help. Toby clearly hasn’t the ability to pay. He’s also waiting for his inspector to come with regard to his gin enterprise. He makes arrangements to meet Rex at The Bull later in the evening. His visitor arrives and Toby hangs up. Bert walks in and spots an application form for Rex to complete. It’s a taxi driving application. Money is short for Rex.
- It’s Burns Night and Anisha’s at The Bull. She meets a kilted Jazzer, a fellow Scot who has been booked to play the bagpipes later in the evening. Banter ensues between them especially when Jazzer discovers that she’s drinking vodka … on Burns Night. They agree to a drinking contest, Jazzer’s whisky against Anisha’s vodka. Anisha spots Rex and Bert and introduces herself. Bert, bless him, claims a back injury and manages to give Usha’s hedge trimming job to the penniless Rex. The contest starts.
- At the bar, David and Kenton discuss the relative merits of the Pargetter twins driving abilities. Kenton suggests a competition in order to see which twin passes their test first. The loser has to perform an unspecified chore for the winner. David agrees. Toby turns up and, spotting Rex, asks Kenton if he can borrow against his earnings, presumably to pay his debt to Rex.
- Toby mentions that the inspection went well, just as Jazzer slumps to the floor, an incoherent wreck. Anisha and Rex manage to haul him to safety outside, where Rex claims to have seen Anisha cheating by drinking mostly water throughout the evening. She sees no problem with her wrongdoing; Jazzer should be able to look after himself after all. She nevertheless asks Rex to keep her secret. He very reluctantly agrees. As she says, no one has been hurt. Well … perhaps not!
