  • Breakfast is rushed to the point of being non-existent at the Tregorran household. Carol’s constant “clucking” around her daughter regarding eating, annoys her. She’s off to see Jess and she needs to be on time. She tells her mother that she’s getting in her way. She really must leave. Now!
  • Pip tells Jill that Josh is being a drama queen about needing to look after the poultry on his own. Jill thinks this unfair. It’s “A” level results next week and she feels that he’s really quite nervous. Pip promises to go easy on him. Asked if she’s still going away, Pip replies “we’ve not decided.” Jill spots the plural like a shot. Pip only just manages to get away when Carol arrives. She and Jill wander off to check on the bees.
  • Pip finds Toby at Hollowtree shifting straw on his own. Rex has gone off to be with their father. Toby apologetically tells Pip that their plans for the weekend must be scrubbed. Pip stops his torrent of self-pity by saying that it really doesn’t matter. He counters by observing that the straw is soft and Rex will be in no position to butt in. Toby’s plans are not wrecked after all.
  • Greeting Anna at the front door, Jess insists that she has nothing to say. She’s changed her mind. Anna pleads with her to help Helen’s cause. At Brookfield, a concerned Carol tells Jill how hard Anna is working on the case. Pip turns up with straw in her hair. Jill sends Carol off on an errand in order to have a private word. She’s desperately worried about her relationship with Toby. Pip assures her that it’s just an enjoyable fling. Clearly, Jill’s not so sure.
  • Jess agrees to talk. She explained that at their meeting, Helen seemed to think that Rob might change, but it just wouldn’t happen. Jess knew how he worked. He would just keep chipping away until he got his own way in everything. Anna insisted that if she testified, the jury would have to consider the possibility of self-defence. Jess is adamant. She will not testify; she just wants Rob out of her life. Helen is not her responsibility. As a social worker, she knows that the law won’t protect her or her new family. She won’t testify and asks Anna to leave.
