Annette is haunted by her past. Nic looks to a bright future.
Radio Times: The past comes back to haunt Annette.
Characters: Annette, Helen, Nic, Pip, Ruth- Pip is revising hard, and today Annette has come round to help with her French. She wishes she could be at Phil’s birthday party, but has to go to school. She’s fascinated by all his old farming acquaintances. Pip and Ruth admire the new grazing scheme, then take a look at the Lapwing nest, but find the eggs smashed. They think it could be a fox or a crow.
- Helen’s still very tense, and has a go at Annette for failing to rinse a cup. She’s going to visit Nic, who’s moved back to Casa Nueva, and feeling guilty, asks Annette to come too. Annette says it won’t upset her to see where Greg lived.
- Nic’s delighted; she’s passed her driving test, so life at Casa Nueva should be much easier for her. She’s touched by the welcome she’s received from the village. Then she puts her foot in it by remarking that the decor in the house when Will and Emma moved in was awful – and that was when Helen and Greg were there. Helen takes it well, and says Greg was too depressed to do much about it. But Annette runs out, and Helen has to chase after her.
- Annette overheard Helen’s row with Pat, and now feels she’s in the way. Helen reassures her, but Annette’s poor relationship with her mother means that she can never talk about Greg. Seeing the house made her loss so much more real. Helen tells her she can stay as long as she likes, and they will talk about Greg all the time.
