Bert and Joe and Lexi and Jennifer are all looking to compete in the flower and produce show.

Radio Times: Tony needs to let go

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Tony isn’t enjoying himself in the supermarket with Peggy. Tony is still sulking that Johnny has gone to Home Farm. Peggy insists it will be good for Johnny to learn about a successful business which upsets Tony even more. But Peggy thinks it’s only natural that he wants to spread his wings. He isn’t John but she is sure he loves them.
  • Jennifer is handing round apple tarts to the pickers. Lexi says she likes them but finds them a bit bland. Jennifer doesn’t agree – you can overdo cinnamon. Lexi says she has heard about the flower and produce show. Jennifer admits things can be a bit competitive – especially among the older men.
  • Robert turns up with a spare bird feeder which he is keen to hang for her. Peggy is very reluctant and tries to distract him but he ploughs on regardless. As he digs down he finds dozens of animal corpses. An animal graveyard. There is obviously a serial killer on the loose -as evidenced by Hilda turning up with a half alive mouse in her mouth. Robert realises all the corpses are her responsibility and storms off with his bird feeder.
  • Bert and Joe find each other skulking outside Cecil Jackson’s house to check out the competition. Bert thinks he could enter almost anything. Joe doesn’t think that’s fair. Lexi catches them at it. She tells them she is there to ask Cecil about the flower and produce show. Bert and Joe think they are the experts so she asks for advice on the dessert category. Bert says his Freda said you had to give the judges something unexpected – though how you surprise a professional chef like Ian is hard to say. She is clearly thinking about entering. Then Cecil turns up and Joe and Bert flee.
  • Later, Tony whinges to Jennifer about Johnny going to Home Farm. He is so stressed about the potatoes…. But what Jennifer has really come to talk about is Hilda. Will Tony take her and Peggy to the vet? He out and out refuses after the trip to the supermarket. The only way he would take Hilda to the vet would be for its final journey.
  • Joe tries to convince Bert that they should have a pact and divide up the classes they enter to defeat Cecil or he’ll win hands down.
