  • This morning Brenda is showing prospective tenants around No 3 The Green, so she has had a lie in, though she didn’t sleep well. Roy has the day off, so suggests meeting in town for lunch.
  • At Bridge Farm, Tony and Pat are thinking about how best to invest the money from the sale. Tom has some ideas for new farm kit but the pension fund comes first!
  • Oliver has come for a bit of recreational shooting with Tony and uses the occasion to moan about Caroline’s preoccupation with work. It’s not how he had planned to spend their retirement. Tony, in turn, has a moan about no longer being an experienced dairy farmer but rather a casual worker – anyone could do that.
  • Over lunch Brenda explains that she thinks she has secured some new tenants, so Lilian should be pleased. Her own search for accommodation is not going so well but Roy puts no pressure on her.
  • Meanwhile, back at Bridge Farm, Tony and Oliver enjoy their own lunch. The new regime has its first test this week because the first batch of yoghourt made from bought-in milk has gone to Underwoods. Will they notice the difference?
  • When she relays the good news to Lilian, Brenda expected some gratitude. The new tenants want to do their own decorating in return for a reduction in the first year’s rent. Lilian makes it plain that negotiating special deals is not Brenda’s job, so get the painters in without delay.
