Characters: , , , , ,
  • Kate is still in a raging temper with Noluthando and Noluthando is no better. Jennifer doesn’t know what exactly was said but it obviously hurt. Brian has no interest – Kate wanted honesty and she’s got it. He’s more interested in the wheat yields which are poor and getting poorer. He needs to do something and the first thing would be to sack the agronomist. There are some “new kids on the block” who have all the latest kit. Debbie is happy and he supposes he’ll have to make sure Adam is onside. Jennifer is concerned that she isn’t being allowed to have a view but Brian tells her not to worry her pretty little head about it.
  • Ruth talks to Pip about Jill coming home. She isn’t going to like it but she will be worse if she hears it from someone else. And then Pip will need to tell the boys and the rest of the family. Ruth asks if Pip would like to talk it through with her first.
  • Adam isn’t happy about the idea of changing the agronomist and definitely not the time to bring in a scorched organisation like the one Brian is suggesting. Brian thinks the complaints about them are exaggerated. Hardys are a danger to the environment and after all the effort he has put into it he isn’t going to roll over and let it happen. Brian claims that with Debbie and Jennifer on his side, he’ll put it to the vote and win.
  • Ruth touches on the idea of an abortion. Now would be the time to decide. Pip admits that she has already been to the clinic but just couldn’t take the pill. So she came home and that’s when she decided. She is 100% sure about it. Ruth is upset Pip didn’t tell her but she is relieved that Pip really has thought about it. Then Jill barges in.
  • Adam finds out from Jennifer that she isn’t necessarily in favour of changing the agronomist. She tells Brian that she isn’t going to vote in favour without doing some more research. And when she has done that, she will let him know.
  • Jill thinks something is going on. Ben says there is some sort of conspiracy. Jill is prepared to accept that it is just Ben’s imagination but Jill needs to be told before Ben works it out for himself. Pip is terrified. Jill will never speak to her again. It is her worse nightmare come true with all of the history with the Fairbrothers. Ruth offers to tell her but Pip says she will do it herself.
