David and Ruth pretend to be happy about Pip’s situation. Roy makes it clear he is less than happy about Ian and Adam’s.

Radio Times: Ruth has a difficult question to raise

Characters: , , , , ,
  • David and Ruth are having a sleepless night. Talk about a double whammy. Not just pregnant but Toby. He says he isn’t really worked up about Toby, he’s just numb. Ruth says mostly they need some sleep and at least she says Toby isn’t going to be part of it. Ruth just wishes she’d told her about it earlier. Pip is just so young. Maybe she is making a terrible mistake. David tries to look at the positive because it is their first grandchild and she is tough. They will just have to deal with it.
  • Lexi and Roy are also having a sleepless night. Lexi says she will look after him.
  • Ruth and David try to make things seem normal but Pip is clearly trying to avoid David at least. David doesn’t understand why. Ruth says they need to keep talking.
  • Roy is clearly bad tempered with Ian. He admits that he knows about Lexi offering to “rent out her body”. Roy is furious for taking advantage of her when he was drunk. It’s hardly professional propositioning a work colleague. What would Kathy think? And then he storms out. Later, Ian tries to sort things out with Roy. He admits it wasn’t appropriate and Adam was furious. Roy doesn’t think it was fair. They only have a short time left together. How could he ask it of her? Ian says he won’t ask her again. Lexi then joins them and Roy pretends everything is fine.
  • David finds Pip doing some welding. He asks if she should be doing it and she is fine. Pip asks if David is really fine with it. He says yes. It was a shock but now he is happy for her and it is their first grandchild. She isn’t convinced and David brushes it away.
  • Ben is curious about what is going on with Pip. Ruth thinks it might be too early to tell people. Things might go wrong or she might even want an abortion. David thinks she has made her decision and he certainly shouldn’t raise it. If someone does want to talk about it, it should be Ruth. David thinks that if she can do it without making things worse than that is what she should do.
