Brian does his best to persuade Adam of the long term benefits of farm expansion.
Radio Times: Lilian puts Justin in the picture, while Susan frets about her family photo shoot.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Helen, Ian, Lilian, Susan- Plans for the day: Adam is checking the fields with Brian; Ian is seeing Helen. Adam passes on his mother’s invitation to Friday supper; that shouldn’t be a problem. Ian reins back Adam’s plans for their anniversary: he wants to be sure what they are celebrating. Maybe a night out together would be fun; he will leave it to Adam to surprise him.
- In the farm shop, Lilian takes a call from Justin – outside; they are discussing Christmas schedules but Lilian can’t move on to her other news because Helen interrupts.
- Brian agrees that the soil compacted around the gate; Adam thinks it will be no better elsewhere: the land has been hammered. Brian has changed his tune about looking after the soil! Why is he so keen to add overheads? Brian correctly deduces that Adam thinks he is too old for this. Brian retorts that he is doing it for Adam and the others: this plan could secure the future for all his children.
- At rehearsals with Justin, Lilian finds a quiet moment to tell him that the family have found out: Jennifer and Tony know but neither will breathe a word. He is only doing the play to be with Lilian.
- Ian has the magic touch with Jack or maybe he was just tired. The hearing is next week; a reduction of Rob’s contact time would be fantastic. How are things with Adam? Helen counsels to give it time. Ian thought he had found his soul mate: someone he could trust and have fun with. Helen is sure he can get that back and Ian hopes she is right.
