Brian ruins a good supper with talk of land acquisition.
Radio Times: Roy has some unwanted attention, and Brian asserts his authority.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Ian, Jazzer, Jennifer, Roy, Tom- The date, it seems was a success, although subtitles made watching the film hard work. Next time it will be Ian’s choice – Stratford perhaps. More immediately, Ian is not able to join Adam for supper at Home Farm; work makes it impossible.
- Roy wonders whether Tom would be up for a 90s night; the question is asked within Jazzer’s hearing, so he invites himself along. Indeed, because he knows the proprietor, they might get in free.
- Without Ian there is clearly a danger of shop talk but both Adam and Brian avoid it until late in the evening.
- Roy’s worst fears come true: he is stalked by Tracy Horrobin.
- Eventually Adam cannot resist declaring his lack of understanding about Brian’s motive in acquiring more land: it’s to ensure that the farm produces the best results for every acre. The results of Adam’s experiment are unimpressive so far. It’s about balancing risks, though they clearly see those differently. Jennifer refuses to take sides. Adam has heard it all before and is not inclined to stay and hear more. When he has gone, Brian agrees that he must talk to the other children; he is sure they will see it as a terrific deal.
