  • Bridge Farm is stocking Brookfield beef again, much to David’s relief and he makes a delivery to Helen, who reassures him that she will field any awkward questions from customers. Helen is equally relieved that things can return to some form of normality without the family at loggerheads, but Tom is more prickly. The farm is the only thing in his life he feels he has any stake in, so defends it fiercely.
  • Helen and Kirsty have a glass of wine and a catch up and they make plans for Kirsty’s forthcoming birthday and a charity dawn chorus walk. Kirsty would like to give something back, having received so much support following her miscarriage so she looks into organising something similar for Ambridge.
  • Following Kenton’s investment in Toby’s gin production, Pip asks for a return on her loan, which Toby flatly refuses. Surely she understood that hers was a long-term investment? She later asks that he begins to repay instalments now that he has the upfront investment from Kenton and Jolene, but Toby insists he needs the cash for working capital and to restock. She invested knowing there would be no quick returns, but it is now that she needs the money.
  • To afford to compensate neighbouring farms, the family at Brookfield work out some cost-cutting measures by deferring projects, upgrades and replacement equipment for a few years. It includes laying Eddie off. In the spirit of coming clean, Pip confesses that she would give them her 5K profit from the herbal lays – if only she had it. David is flabbergasted when he learns she ploughed it into Toby Fairbrother’s fledgling business.
  • Realising that Ruth did not appear taken aback by Pip’s announcement, David asks Ruth and learns that she already knew about Pip’s loan to Toby. They agree to not argue about it with enough bad feeling at the moment, and he also would like Ruth to keep quiet to Jill about how dire the finances are, so as not to worry her.
