  • An interview which could mean a large contract for Alistair’s practice has come up, meaning he will not be able to go to Dan’s mess dinner. With a remarkable lack of sympathy, Shula lets Alistair know exactly how she feels. Despairingly, he tries to point out that he simply cannot pass such an opportunity up.
  • Adam comes to Brookfield, but not, for once, in search of Adam, though he does check that Adam and Ian are still on for the Test Match. Charlie does not seem altogether pleased that Ian will be coming. Meanwhile he has an appointment with Brian. Brian, in turn, wants an appointment with Adam.
  • When Alistair calls to attend to an injured cow at Brookfield, he discovers that Jill has already been told about his failure to put family before business. Apparently Shula has decided to go instead, only to learn that women are not invited – and Dan doesn’t appear to mind. Shula is concerned that her impressionable son will be caught up in this macho culture
  • Charlie tells Brian that he has gone through the Berrow Farm figures with a fine toothcomb, and he is sure that someone has been fiddling them. Rob is the only person who knows his way around the computer system, so who else could it be? Brian makes a rather weak attempt to defend Rob, but Charlie is adamant. It must be Rob.
  • As Shula and Jill chat about Dan and the army, Ruth arrives home. Heather is doing very well, with plenty of attention, but the problem now is that she thinks she will be able to go home.
  • When Brian finally manages to track Adam down, he drops a bombshell. Having taken advice, he has decided that Adam will no longer be employed at Home Farm, so will be unsalaried. Instead he will put a share farming agreement in place; Brian will take 60% of the profits, leaving Adam 40%. If Adam’s plans fail to work out, they will revert to cropping on the current pattern. In future Adam will be gambling with his own money.
